Summer travel deals

Going anywhere fun this summer?

Personally, I can’t wait until when I put my “out of office” message on at the beginning of next month when I head for the beach!

Don’t worry, I’m not counting down the days or anything.

I was shocked to learn how many of us actually forgo vacations. Some 40% of Americans will leave vacation time on the table, one study found, due to a “work martyr complex.”

Really? There’s some sort of valor in dying at our desks? I didn’t get the memo.

So, for my latest column in O, The O Magazine I share some money-saving tips and tools to help you make last-minute travel plans.

Slide1

In the column, I share some specific advice from many travel pros, including So Money guest and travel expert Matt Kepnes who started the wildly popular blog Nomadic Matt.

We learn:

  • How to nab a free upgrade at a hotel upon arrival. What exactly should you say to the front desk?
  • One great app that can help you find the cheapest round-trip flight.
  • The most affordable cities to travel in Europe right now.

I hope you take some time off this summer, even if it’s just a staycation. We all need to hit the reset button sometimes.
