Jennifer Barrett

VP of Editorial at Acorns and Founding Editor of Grow

Today’s guest is the VP of Editorial at Acorns as well as the founding editor of the personal finance site, Grow, which just launched in January. Prior to joining Acorns at the end of last year, JenniferBarrett was a personal finance editor for CNBC Digital. She’s also held executive roles at DailyWorthand Hearst Digital, where she was GM over three magazine websites including Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and Seventeen magazines.  Jennifer is the co-author of two personal finance books and covers financial topics for several national publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek and countless others. Jennifer started her financial journalism career at Dow Jones, where she wrote the foreign exchange column for the Wall Street Journal.

With Jennifer we talk about what’s on tap at Grow? How is it going to actually differentiate itself in a sea of personal finance content out there? What drew her to financial journalism? I mean like I’ve always said, we don’t wait up one day and go, “You know what I really wanna be one day when I grow up? It’s a financial writer.” It just doesn’t happen. What was her turning point? And the financial investment she makes every Saturday that helps her marriage.

One of my favorite quotes from the interview: “$ not the end game. It’s really a means for creating a life that you want and giving yourself options.” – Click to Tweet
